Scleroderma Society Trustees
Amanda Thorpe
I was diagnosed with diffuse scleroderma in 2007 and was given ill health retirement a year later at the ripe old age of 40.
I became involved with the Society as the Essex contact because I wanted to meet other people with scleroderma. It's wonderfully therapeutic to laugh with people facing the same difficulties as you, and believe me we have a lot to laugh about!
I wanted to get more involved being aware the Society relies solely on volunteers so I am now also a trustee, webmaster and local contact coordinator .
The Society was there for me in the early days and I want to make sure it is for others. I now believe that there's still life, good life, to be had after scleroderma it just looks nothing like you thought it would but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
