Scleroderma Society Assistance Fund
The trustees have set up an Assistance Fund for members of the Society. Although applications must come from and include a member, non-members can benefit from the award as well.
It is hoped that the fund will help members with expenses they are unable to meet and have arisen as a result of having scleroderma.
For example, the Fund would consider applications for:
- assistance with the purchase of equipment to aid mobility including special/adapted footwear
- assistance with the purchase of specific clothing
- assistance with utility arrears, in extenuating circumstances
- assistance with accommodation expenses incurred as a result of hospital visits for the person with scleroderma and/or the carer
The Fund will not accept applications for travel to/from hospital as there is government assistance for this at www.direct.gov.uk , where you should search for "NHS travel costs".
Application forms must be completed for every request and requests over £100.00 will have to be substantiated with additional paperwork such as bank statements, appointment letters etc.
The trustees will decide upon each application and will confirm the outcome in writing, however if an application is denied, no explanation as to why will be given. This is to deter the information being used to make bogus claims. .
Our helpline call takers will be able to take requests about making an application but they will not be aware of how any application is progressing, whether it will be accepted and why one has been declined so please do not telephone the helpline for this information.
Claims have to be concluded within three months of the initial application and will be closed if they are not. Once closed, the application will not be reopened and no further application for the same reason will be accepted.
A member may make no more than two applications per year, with the year commencing from the date of the first application.
If you have any queries or wish to make an application, please email info@sclerodermasociety.co.uk .
If you are not able to email, telephone the Society on 0207 7000 1925.
